I visited Old Joliet Prison in Joliet Illinois today. They have several tours including a 4 hour photo tour, but I decided to take the 1.5 hour historical tour instead.
The tour guide did a great job filling us in on the history of the prison and was able to answer our questions too. We got a good overview of the facility, but if you want to take the time to get lots of photos, I think the 4 hour "self guided" photo tour is the way to go. Still, I got some basic shots of the prison and spent most of my effort doing video. Check out my YouTube video on the "Russ Is Right" YouTube channel. I don't believe in ghosts, but if you do, you might like visiting the prison. Still, I decided to make the video with an ominous vibe to it as I thought that was fun to do. I hope you like it.
I would consider coming back for a more in-depth self guided tour in the future. There is quite a bit of walking, so be sure to wear appropriate clothing and good shoes that are not open-toed. There's glass on the ground and other hazards to be aware of.
